WHAT-EVER! – Share simple ways you can live out this week’s reflection verse.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”
~ Colossians 3:23 NIV84
Although I’m not the greatest at memorizing Scripture, I LOVE to read the verses over and over again (out loud too – in my car driving to work!). This verse has been in my heart for many years! Honestly, I think the reason it became so special to me was because of a work situation at the time. I was EXTREMELY UNHAPPY and it was all I could do to get up and go to work every day! I take my Christian witness serious, so I didn’t want to do anything to embarrass God (However, I must admit feeling like God wasn’t hearing my prayers AT ALL!!!).
I got through those 5 years (actually probably more like 4 years) by focusing on this Scripture. I didn’t work for the person with the title “boss” – I worked for HIM! No matter what was said, I KNEW I was doing a good job and everything I did was for Him!
Words of amazing wisdom! Over the years, I have learned that humans will ALWAYS be human. No matter how much we expect them to be everything we need (and an answer to all our prayers), they will always fail and let us down. The truth is: ONLY the LORD can meet all our needs.
I remember listening to pastors and leaders speak of a “relationship” they had with God. I kept trying to SHARE their relationship, not understanding it was impossible. You MUST take time to develop the relationship yourself, requiring patience. I had to stop EXPECTING other people to be my refuge and rely on HIM and HIM ALONE!
I love this verse!
As always, I’m extremely excited to get started on a NEW study! There’s something about the word “NEW”! I can think of several things I have started and didn’t finish – because the new got old. Well, the last Bible study group leader challenged each of us to COMMIT to one-another, to finish the entire study, and come to our weekly gatherings prepared. She had us sign each other’s books, showing our committment. I took her request very seriously! I think there was only one week I hadn’t finished the lesson when we met, but made sure I finished it before the next weekly gathering. The funny thing is that I GREW and was blessed more than I could have ever blessed anyone else! There is something undefinable about spending time WITH GOD IN HIS WORD!
As I start this new study, I have “signed the cover” of each of the other ladies’ books (in my imagination) and promise to stay faithful until the end!
On this wonderful Sunday afternoon, I am planning to read ahead in our book – knowing how my weeks can get (working full time, driving my girls to practices, etc., spending time with my precious granddaughter!) I have a feeling I’ll be posting more later today – most likely the sentences I have underlined/highlighted/jotted down on paper! I love growing!
I told a friend today how much I appreciated sharing my faith walk with them. I am reenergized to DIG DEEP in His Word! I feel SO MUCH BETTER when I’m walking WITH HIM!
I will be starting two on-line Bible studies next week. One on the Book of Psalms and one is a Book Study – Let.It.Go. I can’t wait to start both of them! As a matter of fact, I am starting this new blog to devote to Bible study (plus a few extras, I’m sure)!
I am extremely blessed to have three wonderful children: Peter, Brooke and Kristina (ages 29, 15 and 13) and one PRECIOUS granddaughter! Her name is Harper Noelle and she is 5 (almost 6) months old! I have a feeling you will be seeing lots of pictures of all of them!!!!
I am planning to start my real posts tomorrow night. Please stay tuned for more!
